A DONATION WITH A BYTE

Staff and volunteers in the holistic cancer care centre have taken delivery of new computer and all the accessories - thanks to the generosity of the freemasons.

Acklam Lodge in Middlesbrough put forward an application to the Provincial Grand Charity of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Yorkshire, North and East Ridings, to help out the charity at The James Cook University Hospital.

The result was a donation of £1,200 worth of equipment to help with the day-to-day running of the charity.

Master of Acklam Lodge Ben Doree said: "We hope the centre gets good use out of the computer for many years to come and we will endeavour to raise money for the charity again in the future."

Centre manager Sue Stephenson added: "It’s wonderful and something we desperately needed – my computer was certainly past its sell-by date! The Masons have bought the complete works for the centre and we’re really grateful for their generosity."

DAISY CHAIN

The Daisy Chain project is located in the rural setting of Calf Fallow Farm, Norton, Stockton, a charity providing respite care for the families and carers of children with autistic problems.

Following a visit to the Daisy Chain project and being impressed by the way the charity was using its resources, the Hazelgrove Lodge and the Almoner Roy Wheeler arranged a donation of £250.

The charity is raising funds to set up a 10-bed short break residential home with a swimming pool, play barn housing, soft play, arts and craft areas and an I.T. suite.

Because of the rural setting an opportunity is available for the children to have an interactive area with small animals such as sheep, goats, rabbits etc. The Almoner was also able to provide assistance through the generosity of a friend, to supply feed for the small animals on a regular basis and discounted prices.
